The treatment itself: a course of 10 to 14 days, built out of several procedures after a doctor has examined you.
Naftalan treatment is not the name of a single procedure — it is the use of naftalan oil in several forms, under medical supervision, as a course. The main procedure is most often the naftalan bath, with applications, physiotherapy, massage and movement therapy alongside it. Which procedures are prescribed, in what order and how many times, is decided by the first examination.
The directions treatment is built along
Naftalan treatment runs along several profiles, each with its own set of procedures:
- Musculoskeletal system — naftalan baths, physiotherapy, therapeutic massage and an individual movement programme.
- Skin conditions — baths and applications, under a dermatologist's eye.
- Nerve pain — naftalan therapy, physiotherapy, massage and kinesiotherapy.
- Urological programmes — naftalan applications, balneotherapy and the related procedures.
- Gynaecological programmes — applications and tampons, together with physiotherapy.
- Upper respiratory tract — naftalan applications and salt-room sessions.
More than one direction can run for the same guest: someone who comes with a joint complaint may have procedures added for skin or sleep.
How a course is put together
On arrival day there is a doctor's appointment: your complaints, the documents you bring, laboratory tests where needed. A daily schedule follows — usually one main procedure and one or two that support it, with rest in between. A standard course runs 10 to 14 days; seven nights suits a short trip, and 21 nights is chosen for chronic complaints. The schedule can change mid-course, because the doctor watches how you respond and replans where necessary.
What one session is like
In a naftalan bath the oil is warmed to 37–38 °C, close to body heat, and the session lasts up to ten minutes. A warm shower follows, the residue is removed with a special preparation, and at least forty minutes of rest are given. That rest is part of the protocol, not an optional extra. A medical worker is with you throughout.
When results appear
The effect accumulates over the course rather than in one session — feeling no change in the first days is normal. At least ten sessions are advised, and a repeat course is not planned sooner than six months later. Naftalan does not replace your main treatment, and no sanatorium can guarantee a cure; what is realistic in your case is something the doctor can say after examining you.
