Procedures
A physiotherapy method in which ultrasound carries a therapeutic substance into the deeper layers of the skin.
Phonophoresis combines ultrasound therapy with the application of a medicine: the substance is spread on the skin and the ultrasound head is passed over it, the waves helping it travel deeper. At naftalan resorts the substance used is often naftalan-based.
What a session is like
It is painless; you feel mild warmth and vibration. A session usually runs a few minutes and varies with the area treated.
Contraindications
A pacemaker, malignancy in the area, acute inflammation, pregnancy and broken skin all limit its use. It is given on a doctor's prescription.
