ECG (electrocardiogram)

A non-invasive test recording the heart's electrical activity, taken before a course begins.

An ECG is a non-invasive diagnostic test that records the electrical activity of the heart. Electrodes are placed on the chest, arms and legs, and the impulses the heart produces are recorded over time as a graph. The test is quick, painless and gives its result at once.

Why it is done before a course

A naftalan bath and the other heat procedures put load on the cardiovascular system. An ECG lets the doctor judge whether that load is safe for you and helps build your schedule individually. Severe cardiovascular disease is a contraindication to the full naftalan bath.

What it detects

Irregular heart rhythms, arrhythmias, signs of a past infarction and other cardiac problems. If you have chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations or dizziness, say so at the first examination.

When ECG (electrocardiogram) is prescribed

  • General assessment before a naftalan course begins
  • Chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations or dizziness
  • Monitoring a known cardiovascular condition
  • Hypertension and age-related risk groups
  • Building the treatment schedule safely
