Deresined naftalan

Naftalan oil

Naftalan oil with its resin fraction removed — the form that pharmacy ointments, creams and shampoos are generally based on.

Raw naftalan oil carries resin components that can irritate the skin. Industrial processing removes that fraction, and what remains is called deresined naftalan.

Where it is used

Mostly in pharmacy preparations: ointments, creams, shampoos and gels. These are meant for use at home on a limited area of the body, and how much naftalan they contain varies by manufacturer.

How it differs from the bath

A sanatorium bath is not the same procedure as a deresined ointment: the concentration, the temperature (37–38 °C), the area of contact and the medical supervision are on a different scale entirely. Neither substitutes for the other, and which one suits you is for a doctor to say.
