A naftalan treatment trip from Moscow: the route and the planning

The direct flight to Ganja, the option through Baku, how long the road takes and how many days to plan for the course.

Most guests travelling from Russia set out from Moscow. The route is simple, but the choice between two options can win or cost you a day of the trip.

Option 1: direct to Ganja

Ganja International Airport (GNJ) is the closest airport to Naftalan — about 63 km, under an hour by car. Direct flights from Moscow to Ganja vary by season, so it is worth checking both Ganja and Baku when you look for a ticket. If you find a direct flight, you can check in and start the procedures the next morning.

Option 2: through Baku

Heydar Aliyev Airport (GYD) takes far more flights from Moscow and the ticket is usually cheaper. The rest of the journey is 320 km: close to four hours by car, or about 3.5 hours on the Baku–Ganja fast train (the nearest railway point to Naftalan is Goran station). On a morning flight you reach the hotel the same day.

How many days to plan for

Naftalan treatment works as a course — the effect accumulates over repeated sessions. Guests most often choose programmes of 7, 10 or 14 nights; how many days you need follows from your complaint and from the first examination. When you plan, count the arrival and departure days: the doctor sees you on the day you arrive, and the procedures usually begin the following morning.

Documents and entry rules

Entry rules for Azerbaijan depend on citizenship and change from time to time — the current position should only be taken from an official source. If you need a booking confirmation, we will send one. Medical papers worth bringing: recent test results, a discharge summary for any chronic condition, and a list of the medicines you take regularly.

The language question

Reception and the medical block work freely in Russian. That makes a practical difference: the examination, the description of your complaints and the instructions for each procedure happen without an interpreter, which for a Russian-speaking guest is the easiest part of the trip.

One step before you travel

Before you buy the ticket, send us your complaint and any recent results. Our doctors will write back on whether a course suits you and roughly how long it should run — and you can pick your dates from that.
